As you can see there are a lot of different bottles or diffusers on the market. And there are a lot of ways to make alkaline water for your next race. So, we dive into each of our favorites in more detail below.

Best Alkaline Water Bottle for Runners

1. GOFILTR Alkaline Diffuser

First, by far our favorite diffuser, is the GOFILTR Alkaline Diffuser. We found that this option packs a lot of perks into a small package.

In fact, the GOFILTR is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, and is the most versatile option for runners.

Ultimately, it’s the ideal choice for your runner’s belt or hydration pack. Furthermore, it’s easy to use.

For instance,  simply drop it into your water bottle and watch your pH level climb to 9.5 in minutes.

Drop and Go

Additionally, you don’t have to worry about the added expense or hassle of a heavy water bottle.

You can drop the GOFILTR in your favorite mini bottle, pitcher, or even hydration pack.

As a result, the GoFiltr is one of the easiest options for runners.

Furthermore, unlike other options, no special tools, modifications, or attachments are needed. It’s as simple as drop and go.

Plus, the GoFiltr can be easily switched from one bottle to the next. When you’re done running, simply remove it from your mini bottle or hydration pack. Then, slip it into your favorite bottle for daily use.

GoFiltr Mobile App

In addition, another superb feature, the GoFiltr lets you track how many uses you have before your next refill. In fact, it’s compatible with either Android or iOS, so you can customize the app to your preferred bottle.

First, set your optimal water intake and let the app do the rest.

In the end, the app keeps track of the number of refills left and days remaining until your next change.

Plus, the GoFiltr app even sends you notifications when it’s time to change out your filter.

Three Different Varieties

Lastly, your GoFiltr offers three different mineral pack options to choose from.

First, there’s the Alkaline Original mineral pack, which is best suited for your daily hydration needs.

Then, for those long endurance runs, you have the Alkaline Magnesium blend. For instance, the special magnesium proprietary blend is the perfect choice for your detox and recovery days.

Finally, the Mineral Electrolyte blend is a sugar-free formula designed to replenish trace vitamins and minerals lost through sweat.

Furthermore, the three separate mineral packs are great for runners with various hydration requirements for different days of the week.

Having the ability to super-infuse your water following an intense run is a huge advantage.

2. Ehm Ultra 3.8L Alkaline Water Filter Pitcher

Next, our favorite premake and take is the Ehm Ultra 3.8L Alkaline Water Filter Pitcher.

Importantly, Ehm’s specially designed 6-layer filter removes heavy metal toxins, chlorine, and other contaminants.

In addition, the Ehm simultaneously adds calcium, potassium, magnesium, and anti-oxidants while reducing ORP to -100 to -200 millivolts.

If you’re not familiar with ORP, or oxidation reduction potential, it’s the measurement of how oxidizing something is. Thus, the more negative the ORP rating, the greater anti-oxidizing power it has.

For example, an ORP of -200 mV is more anti-oxidizing than an ORP of -150 mV.

Lasts Up to Six Weeks

Additionally, no one likes the idea of incorporating more chores into their daily routine. For some, messing with frequent refills and transferring diffusers becomes an added burden in an already hectic schedule.

Alas, the Ehm Ultra can make up to two liters of alkaline water at a time.

As a result, this means you won’t have to constantly change your filter or transition diffusers from one bottle to the next.

Plus, the process only takes a few minutes to complete. So, you can have a six-week water supply ready and waiting.

With a 2L capacity, make a whole pitcher and distribute it to your favorite water bottle or hydration pack.  Then, simply refill the pitcher and put it back in the fridge. So you spend less time on tedious chores and more time doing what you love.

Furthermore, the Ehm Ultra is ergonomically designed to fit in your refrigerator so it won’t hoard all your space.

Superb Quality

In addition, each Ehm Water Pitcher undergoes the strictest quality control through a state-of-the-art manufacturing process.

Moreover, each filter includes:

  1. Far infrared stones for energizing the water
  2. Maifan stones add iron, zinc, calcium, and other minerals
  3. Negative potential balls to reduce ORP values
  4. Tourmaline stones to raise the pH value

The result is clean, toxin-free, mineralized alkaline water.

Filters Harmful Elements and Heavy Metals

Finally, the Ehm Ultra removes chlorine, fluoride, and limescale from your drinking water.

Now, while chlorine is necessary to kill waterborne illnesses, too much chlorine is dangerous. In fact, it can remove necessary iodine from the thyroid, kill antioxidants, and kill good bacteria in your GI tract.

Whereas, too much fluoride can negatively impact the brain, bones, and kidneys.

In addition, the Ehm Ultra removes heavy metals such as copper, lead, and other pollutants.  And too many heavy metals are toxic and contribute to a whole range of health impairments.

Ultimately, the Ehm Water Pitcher gets rid of all the nasty stuff, giving you the best alkaline water free from impurities.

Pros and Cons of the Ehm Ultra 3.8L Alkaline Water Filter Pitcher

3. New Wave Enviro Alkaline Water Bottle

Next, our favorite budget-friendly alkaline bottle is the New Wave Enviro.

The magic wand takes your filtered tap water from the faucet and turns it into delicious ionized, alkaline water.

Plus, your purchase includes the bottle, lid, and wand made from #304 stainless steel.

Additionally, the wand can be used with your personal water bottle.

Great For Those That Require Lower pH Levels

First, higher pH does not always mean healthier or better. In fact, some runners experience GI distress with higher alkalinity.

For instance, the stomach is naturally designed to be around a pH of 1.5-2.5.

For some, ingesting water with higher alkalinity offsets the body’s natural balance thereby causing GI upset.

So, if you’re one of those runners, then this bottle will be a easier on the stomach.

In fact, the Enviro makes water with a moderate ph bump of 8.5.

Furthermore, some research suggests lower alkalinity is more suitable for runners over the age of 60 (Source).

Reduces Chlorine and Heavy Metals

Inn addition, the Enviro’s calcium sulfite ceramic balls help reduce harmful chlorine in the water.

Next, the Maifan stone ceramic balls absorb heavy metals while also mineralizing the water.

Furthermore, tourmaline within the filter helps aid with detoxification.

As a result, runners know they’re getting pure water and better hydration.

Furthermore, wand replacements are pretty affordable around $10 each and are readily available by a number of distributors.

Filters should be changed every 90 days.

Promotes Body Equilibrium

Finally, Enviro’s BPA-free bottle and stainless still wand provide chlorine-free, alkalized-water on the go without all the yucky contaminants.

Moreover, the improved taste incentivizes you to drink more water, thereby promoting body equilibrium for an overall healthier lifestyle.

4. GOFILTR 50 Oz Alkaline Hydration Kit

Next, if you’re looking for a solid package deal, you can’t go wrong with the GOFILTR 50 Oz Alkaline Hydration Kit.

In fact, it has all the same great features as our favorite GoFiltr Alkaline Diffuser, but even more.

50 oz Wide Mouth Bottle

Firstly, you get a quality, food-grade, vacuum-sealed 50 oz bottle with a straw lid.

Additionally, it has a wide-mouth opening allowing plenty of room for your filter.

Plus, you can add ice without fear of condensation or sweating, and your water stays cold for up to 24 hours. And the extra wide opening also makes it easy to clean.

In addition, attached to the bottle is a soft-flex carry handle that’s durable and comfortable to hold.

Lastly, the bottle has a durable Luma powder coating making it scratch resistant.

Fits Any Bottle

Next, use the GoFiltr diffuser in the American-made, GoFiltr H+ bottle, or transfer it to your personal favorite.

And while the H+ bottle is nice, it’s a bit too big and bulky for running.

As a result, you can easily use this diffuser with any running belt bottle.

Variety of Infusers

What’s more, the GoFiltr offers three different mineral packs.

And, because the GoFiltr Hydration Kit comes with two diffusers, you get to pick your types.

Furthermore, the all-natural mineral formulas create perfect hydration where magnesium, calcium, and potassium are synergized for ultimate harmony.

Plus, the Alkaline Magnesium diffuser was specifically designed to cope with detox and hangover recovery by infusing your water with essential minerals and electrolytes.

Finally, GoFiltr alkalines your water to 9.5 pH in just minutes.

Who Would This Bottle be Perfect For?

Anyone interested in our favorite GoFiltr Alkaline Hydration Kit is great for runners that find large capacity water pitchers too big, the 50 oz bottle is a great way to pre-make your water in smaller quantities.

5. DYLN Alkaline Water Bottle

Next is one we love for durability, style, and great-tasting water. In fact, the DYLN Alkaline Water Bottle offers 4 sizes from 12 ounces to 40 ounces.

Plus, there’s a multitude of colors to choose from. And you get a high-quality bottle, ViaBead diffuser, and an easy-to-use removal tool.

High-Quality Bottle

First and foremost, Dlyn offers one of the best quality bottles on the market.

In fact, the DYLN exterior features #304 food-grade stainless steel.

Furthermore, its interior is #316 Japanese surgical-grade stainless steel.

We love the pristine taste of water from this steel. I’ve owned a ton of metal water bottles and it always seems to taste tinny. But not with the DYLN.

Plus, the DYLN is BPA-free.

In addition, its ergonomic shape makes it both easy and comfortable to hold.

Furthermore, the DYLN features triple-vacuum insulation with a copper liner to keep your water cold and your bottle sweat-free.

All in all, this bottle is a beast and makes great-tasting, healthier water.

Proprietary VitaBead Diffuser

Next, the VitaBead diffuser is made with a proprietary blend of silica, zinc, magnesium, and tourmaline.

Within 15-20 minutes, your water is alkalized to a pH of 9+ and its ORP is reduced to -150.

In addition, your water is hydrogen enriched. And hydrogen enriched water has been touted for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-aging properties.

Furthermore, it’s reported to increase energy and improve muscle recovery.

Moreover, each filter lasts up to 315 refills, 300 liters, or 3 months.

The diffuser removal tool makes it easy to remove and replace the filter (once you get the hang of it).

However, diffuser refills are a bit pricey at around $20 each, or bundled in 2, 4, or 8 with discounted prices.

Additionally, it must be stated that these diffusers

Stays Alkaline Even Out of the Bottle

Obviously, your water will stay alkaline while it’s in your Dyln bottle.

However, you can pour DYLN water into a different container, and it will remain alkaline for up to 3 days.

This is a convenient feature for those that prefer hydration packs or hip belts. Be warned, however, the Dyln Alkaline Water Bottle only works with filtered or purified water.

Additionally, we found the diffusers painfully long to prepare.

For example, you’ll need to run it under warm water, then soak it in a glass of water for 20 minutes, rinse, and finally let it air dry for 8 hours before using it.

However, for a product with no plastic (other than the diffuser removal tool) and reliable alkaline performance, this bottle is worth the extra steps.

6. pH Active Insulated Water Bottle

Finally, the pH Active Insulated Water Bottle is sleek and easy to use.

We love the high-capacity 22 oz double-walled vacuum-sealed insulated bottle.

Plus, it comes with a teabag sachet that can filter up to 98 liters of water.

Additionally, it comes with your choice of either a sports lid with straw or a stylish wooden bamboo lid.

Proprietary On-The-Go Filter Recipe

Firstly, each teabag sachet increases pH levels while reducing ORP levels.

In fact, the pH Active simultaneously eliminates chloride, fluoride, and heavy metals.

We loved the taste this system provides.

In addition, it remineralizes water by adding iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium, selenium, lithium, iodine, and other trace minerals.

Long lasting filtration

Furthermore, each sachet has a capacity for 416 cups, 26 gallons, 98 liters, or one month.

Of course, ‘one month’ is based on a daily consumption rate of 8 ounces per day.

Additionally, refill filter diffusers are readily available at just under $25 for three. That’s a three-month water supply for around $8 a month, which is fairly inexpensive compared to other models.

Charity: Water Supporter

Finally, ounded in 2006, Charity: Water is a non-government organization that works towards providing safe drinking water to underdeveloped countries.

Although, unbeknownst how much, a portion of your purchase is donated to the organization. These donations help build sustainable water supplies in other less fortunate parts of the world.

Best Alkaline Water Bottle for Runners

What Makes a Great Alkaline Water Bottle for Runners?

Consuming alkaline water while running should be comfortable and hassle-free without awkward water bottles slowing you down. The best alkaline water bottles will possess these key features:

  1. Portablility: Unfortunately, what we love about most reusable alkaline water bottles is a downside for runners. Many bottles are constructed of heavy stainless steel or glass, so they are pretty much a no-go for your hip belt. However, runners that carry refillable mini bottles or a hydration bladder may enjoy alkaline water via a universal alkaline diffuser, or by making alkaline water ahead of time and filling their hydration pack. Because disposable plastic bottles are gross. Additionally, rigid metal or glass will never have the squirt top which runners prefer while in motion, so you will notice our favorite method is diffusing or making ahead.
  2. Tested for true alkalinity: It’s important that a selected bottle does in fact deliver on its promises. Most alkaline bottles take 15-20 minutes to turn your ph 7 tap water to ph 9+.
  3. Bags vs. Diffusers: Ionizing and alkalizing your water requires a component that delivers minerals. This can either be as a teabag-like sachet of mineral beads or a rigid stainless steel diffuser. Although they add a bit of weight, we prefer diffusers, as bags tend to split and break, while diffusers can take a beating.
  4. Quality Materials: You’ll want a bottle, pitcher, or diffuser that is made of quality materials. For instance, pitchers can be made of brittle, unreliable plastic and bottle lids and accessories often fail on cheaper bottles. If you opt for a glass bottle, be sure it comes with a silicone sleeve.

However, bear in mind that higher alkalinity does not always equal better. For instance, a 9.5 pH might not do well for those runners with weaker stomachs.

In fact, some runners aren’t able to handle the higher alkalinity, and as a result, experience digestive issues, bloating, and cramping.

We’d suggest checking out bottled alkaline water or a refill station at your local health food store, like Whole Foods, to try out high ph water before settling on a bottle system.

Drink Up!

Alkaline (high pH) water has been shown to greatly benefit runners, by increasing performance, speeding recovery, and increasing hydration when compared to normal water. However, for runners, carrying alkaline water with them can be a hassle, unless they buy disposable plastic water bottles that have already been alkalized.

If you enjoy alkaline water, having your own alkaline water bottle or diffuser can save you some big bucks. More importantly, it can provide you with adequate hydration needs while also reducing your carbon footprint.

In fact, you can get affordable, quality, great-tasting alkaline water without having to buy all those disgustingly gross plastic bottles.
